Frio River
The Frio River snakes through Garner State Park, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Cypress trees line the cold spring-fed water which takes its name from the Spanish word for 'cold'. The consistent flow of the Frio River has made it a popular summertime destination for tubing, fishing, camping, and kayaking.
"Nothing in the world compares to being whisked down the rock-riven channels of a beautiful Texas river…the meandering, crystal-clear Frio River, it’s a juxtaposition of green-carpeted hills, scrubby trees and yellow-flowered prickly pear, and everywhere rocks and limestone ledges and stony canyon walls." - That Old Frio River - By Courtney Bond Texas Monthly

Palo Duro Canyon
Located in the Panhandle of Texas, Palo Duro Canyon is the second largest canyon in America. Palo Duro Canyon is known for its dramatic geological features, including the multi colored layers of rock and its most famous structure: the Lighthouse Rock. The Spanish name Palo Duro means "hard stick" and refers to the hardwood shrubs and trees found in the canyon. Today, Palo Duro Canyon is a popular destination for hiking, camping, and picnicking. It is also home to a variety of wildlife, including mule deer, coyotes, bobcats, and foxes.
"If you’re the type that thinks the Panhandle is nothing but flat earth – you are WRONG! And a trip to Palo Duro Canyon State Park is a must… I recommend a mountain bike ride to the Lighthouse, which is truly one of the most beautiful sights in Texas." Chet Garner - The Daytripper
